Cenex Harvest States
The Minnesota State High School League has placed Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Wayzata into the Lake Conference, effective with the 2010-11 school year. Those four schools currently belong to the Classic Lake, which will dissolve at the end of 2009-10. Click here for more.
Edina told to forfeit six football wins
Edina High School has been ordered to forfeit six football victories from last season, as well as the results of one track meet this spring, because an ineligible athlete participated in those contests. The Minnesota State High School League, which became aware of the situation in April, informed Edina of its decision on Wednesday. Click here for more.
Conference threatens to jettison Eden Prairie
The Lake Conference, one of Minnesota's premier high school athletic leagues, is threatening to kick out Eden Prairie and its powerhouse programs in a revolt against ... well, maybe not Eden Prairie as much as against the Minnesota State High School League. Either way, the structure of high school activities for many of the largest schools in the western and southern suburbs is going to change. Click here for more.
The Day After...
Well, let’s hope today is a little calmer than yesterday. The Lake Conference shenanigans blew up early in the afternoon and the rest of the day was some wild ride, wasn’t it? As the dust settles, I’m getting some fresh feedback this morning from people behind the scenes in the Lake and elsewhere. Here is the latest update… –Lake superintendents might be a little upset with their principals. School boards are supposed to make the major decisions for their school districts, and conference membership fits that framework. I’m hearing that Lake superintendents are reminding their principals — who sit on the Lake executive committee and attended yesterday’s meeting — that the principals don’t have the authority to do what they did; i.e., threaten the MSHSL with massive conference realignment. Metro dominates Outstate in All-Star game
The Metro All-Stars had no problem with the Outstate in Saturdays All-Star game in St. Cloud. The Metro Stars won 54-13 to tie the series at 15-15.
In a game that was much more physical than one would expect from an out-of-season All-Star game, Blair Townsend, Coon Rapids, threw for three touchdowns; two to Tyler Swanson, Lakeville North.

Wild take Leddy with first pick
The Minnesota Wild traded their 12th overall pick in the NHL draft for No. 16 and an extra third round selection. So, with their first pick in the draft, the Wild picked ... Nick Leddy.
Leddy led Eden Prairie to the Class 2A state championship in March while winning the prestigious Mr. Hockey award. Leddy was on most major draft boards, but not this high. TSN and Versus - broadcasting partners for the draft - had current U of M center Jordan Schroeder as the likely choice for the Wild. Some were even mentioning future Gopher Zach Budish.
But, the Wild, with a new vision that has just been fleshed out with a new head coach, chose Leddy ahead of his future college teammates. Click here for more Minnesotans in the Draft.
